What kind of protective orders are there?
There are three types of protective orders that Virginia Courts or magistrates may issue: (1) an Emergency Protective Order; (2) a Preliminary Protective Order; and (3) a Protective Order. Where “Petitioner” is used, it means the person who seeks the protective order. The person against whom a protective order is sought is called the “Respondent.”
